This special WW2 badge remembers the almost 1,000,000 Australians – men and women – who served in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945. Initially the war was against Germany, Italy and the Vichy French in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, but in December 1941 Japan declared war and much of Australia’s military returned to fight in the Asia-Pacific to protect Australia from possible invasion. Germany surrendered on 7 May 1945. Japan’s surrender came on 14 August 1945. The badge measures 20mm and is secured with a durable butterfly pin.
